At Rubidoux Community Services District , protecting the quality and safety of our community’s drinking water is one of our highest priorities. Cross-Connection Control Program helps safeguard the public water supply by preventing contaminated or non-potable water from flowing back into the drinking water system.

A cross-connection occurs when a connection exists between the drinking water system and a source of water that may not be safe for consumption. Examples can include landscape irrigation systems, swimming pools, hose connections, chemical or fertilizer equipment, booster pumps, and other plumbing or water-use equipment.

Under normal conditions, water flows in one direction, from the RCSD water system to your property. However, changes in water pressure can cause backflow, allowing water from a non-potable source to reverse direction and potentially enter the drinking water system. This can create a risk to the water quality on your property and to the public water supply.

To help prevent contamination, certain properties are required to have an approved backflow prevention assembly. Property owners are responsible for ensuring these assemblies are:

• Properly installed and maintained
• Accessible for inspection and testing
• Kept in good working condition
• Tested annually by a certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester within the required timeframe
