The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for retaining audio recordings of open and public Board Meetings, pursuant to Government Code 549353.5(b).
The District has adopted Ordinance No. 102, establishing a policy for the retention of audio recordings of Public Meetings. The Ordinance states that Board Meetings are recorded to aid in the transcribing of meeting minutes. Therefore, audio recordings shall be retained for 30 days after the recording and until the Board has approved corresponding minutes. Pursuant to Section 34090, the recordings may be erased or destroyed 30 days after the recording.
If the audio recordings contain Board Meeting items that are of a controversial or disputed nature or contentious public hearing testimony is received, the Board or the General Manager may elect to retain the recordings of such meetings longer than prescribed above.
